When I was a little girl, we periodically had “duck and cover” drills where we hid under our desks. Those were constant reminders that Russia was evil and might drop the “big one” at any moment.
Hollywood elites black-balled anyone they deemed to be a communist. Gossip was all it took. J. Edgar Hoover, director of the FBI, was conducting illegal surveillance of political opponents, similar to tactics of the KGB.
Here we are in 2017 and it seems history is repeating itself. There are rogue intelligence bureaucrats leaking classified information with the purpose of undermining the president of the United States of America, with complete and total disregard for the safety of the nation.
There are mainstream news media openly trying to compromise the president. Salacious headlines imply that Vladimir Putin is in the White House, backed up with “unnamed sources” and statements of disclaimers informing the end user that no one verified anything.
According to Democrats in Congress, people should “resist”; however, the question is, resist what? Should people resist better schools, health care, fixing the broken Veterans Administration, putting folks back to work with good-paying jobs, finding goods in stores with “Made in the USA” labels again, making inner cities safe, fixing the nation’s infrastructure and so on?
President John F. Kennedy once said, “Our problems are man-made. Therefore, they can be solved by man.” We had all better hope and pray that President Donald Trump is that man. The alternative is failure for us all.
