LEWISTON — Maine InfoNet Download Library will move to a brand new e-book and e-audiobook platform called cloudLibrary on March 1. This will replace the Overdrive platform being used now now to borrow e-books and digital audiobooks, Lewiston and Auburn Public Libraries has announced.
The current system, managed by Overdrive, will be turned off Tuesday Feb. 28, and the cloudLibrary will launch the very next day, Wednesday, March 1.
Once the system is live on March 1, users will be able to download the new app for their devices by going to libraryla.org/ebooks and follow the links to log in via their library.
With this transition to the cloudLibrary, the Download Library will continue to offer readers nearly all of the current collection of over 10,000 digital titles that are already in the Download Library plus new titles and additional copies of popular titles. The cloudLibrary will offer patrons an app-based user experience that makes it easier to download e-books and e-audiobooks. The cloudLibrary app highlights the best and freshest titles in the collection, and also allows for patron customization.
Users of Kindle devices should be advised that the Kindle Fire (second generation or newer) will work with the cloudLibrary, but e-ink Kindles will not.
To help the community with this transition, the Lewiston Public Library will offer open drop-in help sessions from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, March 1 and 2; the Auburn Public Library will have staff available for drop in help throughout the first week of March. Library members need only bring their device and their library card; no appointment is necessary.
In addition, both libraries will continue to offer one-on-one appointments with librarians for those seeking help with the Download Library outside of these hours.
