PARIS — Oxford County commissioners voted 3-0 Tuesday to approve a new work-at-home policy, County Administrator Scott Cole said.
Cole said commissioners looked at how many hours of work people are doing at home and how susceptible employees’ home computers are to hacking.
The new policy requires employees to demonstrate work produced from home upon request. It also mandates that working from home “may not be used in lieu of taking sick time.”
According to the policy, working at home is allowed when “weather prevents an employee from getting to work” or “as a temporary and time-limited arrangement to meet a specific need of an exempt staff member.”
In other business, Cole said the commission may be nearing an agreement to buy another piece of property on Western Promenade related to the upcoming expansion of the courthouse.
For several years, commissioners have been seeking to revamp and expand the courthouse and were looking to buy land to facilitate a better project, Cole said.
In December 2016, commissioners voted to buy property on Western Promenade next to the courthouse for $150,000.
Cole said the parking lot at the courthouse will be the site of a new courthouse, and the Western Promenade property would be used for parking.
Built in 1895, the two-story brick courthouse is home to the Oxford County Superior Court, county administrative offices, the Registry of Deeds Office for the Eastern Division and the assistant district attorneys’ offices.
Oxford County commissioners are negotiating to buy land next to the courthouse in South Paris. The plan is to renovate and expand the courthouse and add land for parking.
