CARRABASSETT VALLEY — Yarmouth produced the individual winners, but for the second day in a row Maranacook won the team titles, and claim the Class B Nordic skiing state boys’ and girls’ state championships at the Sugarloaf Outdoor Center.
The Black Bears’ boys’ and girls’ teams finished first in the skate race Friday to follow up their classical wins Thursday.
The Maranacook girls finish with a two-day total of 43 points. Yarmouth was second with 55, and Freeport was a distant third with 111. Caribou was fourth and Mt. Abram fifth.
Yarmouth’s Grace Cowles completed the skate race in 17 minutes, 11.3 seconds to earn the individual title. Maranacook’s Laura Parent was the runner-up, finishing in 17:15.1.
The results were flip-flopped in Thursday’s classic race, with Parent placing first and Cowles coming in second.
St. Dom’s Emily Gerencer had the tri-county area’s top showing Friday, a third-place finish with a time of 17:49.6. Gerencer took fourth in the classical competition Thursday.
Mt. Abram’s Risa Marble, Alice Cockerham and Destiny Thorndike finished 24th, 26th and 27th, respectively.
Mountain Valley’s Emma Sommer came in 30th, and, for Spruce Mountain, Emma DiPompo was 33rd and Annabelle Collis was 34th.
Boys’ results
The Maranacook boys finish the two-day session with 45 points. Freeport, which finished one point behind Marancook Friday (28-29) was second overall with 60 points. Yarmouth was third at 128 points. From the tri-county area, Mt. Abram was fifth, Spruce Mountain eighth and Mountain Valley ninth.
Maranacook was led by Zach Holman’s runner-up finish (14:16.7) Friday. He won Thursday’s classic race.
Yarmouth’s John Lane won the individual skate state championship with a time of 14:07.0. Freeport had the third and fourth finishers, Yacob Olins (14:16.9) and Bennett Hight (14:57.7).
Mt. Abram’s Vernon Romanoski was the tri-county area’s highest finisher, coming in fifth with a time of 15:16.5.
The Roadrunners had two other top-20 showings: Harrison Walters took 15th, and David Kidd came in 20th. Also for Mt. Abram, Brandon Hemingway finished 28th, Levi Bouchard was 30th and Dylan Starbird came in 35th.
Gray-New Gloucester’s Michael Sutherland finished 36th, and Spruce Mountain’s high finisher was Bryce Chavez, who came in 39th.
