LEWISTON — An open invitation for Christians to experience a 10-week prayer journey is being offered by Sister Marie May Lausier, a Catholic nun who specializes in spiritual teaching.

Weekly meetings of prayer journey participants will be held Wednesday evenings beginning March 1.

The format allows people who cannot go away for a retreat to do the exercises as part of their daily routine.

It is a directed prayer experience designed to integrate God’s teachings with a person’s daily life, which leads to a path of love and wisdom, Lausier said.

The prayer journey applies to any Christian tradition, and is based on scripture and the spiritual exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola.

St. Ignatius was born in 1491 in Spain, and became the founder of the Jesuits. He developed the teachings, exercises and prayer used in the retreat.

For people who have taken the prayer journey, “what it does is reorder their life according to God’s will,” Lausier said. It allows people to examine their values and who they are in Christ, said Lausier, who has been involved in leading spiritual journeys for 40 years.

During the 10-week journey, participates pray every day for a half hour. “If they pray, their life changes,” Lausier said.

The group is limited to eight or nine people. It will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays, March 1 to May 3, in the Senior Hall behind Holy Cross Church.

Before people are enrolled, interviews are requested with Lausier.
