JAY — Money for recreation-related expenses normally funded through the annual municipal budget will come from the town’s Recreation/Tower Reserve Account for 2017-18, Town Manager Shiloh LaFreniere said Monday.
Selectpersons unanimously approved using $32,180 from the reserve account Feb. 20. It had $176,543 in it as of Jan. 3.
Selectperson Judy Diaz recused herself from the vote because she is involved with the Spruce Mountain Ski Club, LaFreniere said.
The recreation requests were taken as a group.
Of the $32,180, $11,025 is for insurance for Spruce Mountain Ski Slope and $2,500 for Area Youth Sports; $4,655 is for the town’s share of a snowmobile for Spruce Mountain; $12,000 is for a summer recreation program; and $2,000 is for fireworks.
All expenses, except the snowmobile, are normally listed on the annual town meeting warrant under donations. Selectpersons opted not to include them in the 2017-18 proposed budget.
The town’s share of the snowmobile is contingent on Livermore and Livermore Falls each paying its share, LaFreniere said.
The three towns own the mountain and buildings in Jay, and the Ski Club owns the equipment and operates the ski area.
Also not in the proposed budget are: $750 for Jay Historical Society; $1,000 for Tri-Town Ministerial Association Food Cupboard; and $750 for the North Jay Grange.
