DIXFIELD — Helen Elward, 91, of Meadowbrook Terrace in Dixfield, passed away Sunday, Feb. 26.
She was born in Three Rivers, Canada, on Dec. 10, 1925, a daughter of Winfield W. and Myra L. (Morong) Chase.
Helen was educated in Livermore Falls schools and was a graduate of Livermore Falls High School, Class of 1943. After high school, she was employed for five years as a telephone operator for New England Telephone Co.
Helen met the love of her life, John Elward, at a dance in Rumford. They were married Sept. 25, 1948, and celebrated 55 years together. He passed away in 2003.
She was an active member of Dixfield Congregational Church and was very involved in Bible studies and the prayer shawl ministries.
Helen loved reading, knitting, crocheting and doing word search puzzles.
Surviving are her children, Beverly Glover and husband, Peter, of Dixfield, and Peter Elward of Rumford; two grandchildren, Samantha Noyes and husband, Christopher, and Shad Glover; and 10 great-grandchildren, Dakota Brown, Mason Ericson, Alexis Noyes, Gabrielle Johnson and husband, Nate, Joshua Glover, Olivia Noyes, Emma Glover, Delaney Glover, Jacob Glover and Katrina Glover.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, John; a son, John; a brother, Richard Chase; and a granddaughter, Tammy Ericson.
