The Heart Holds What the Mind Cannot

AUBURN — Marjorie A. Lizotte, 84, passed away Saturday, Feb. 25, at Clover Manor, Galway Unit, Auburn, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Jan. 27, 1933, the youngest of six children of John and Dora LaBossierre Hopkins. She graduated from Lewiston High School in 1950. In June 1952, she married the love of her life, Albin (Ben) Lizotte, whom she asked to marry her. After marriage, they moved to Auburn, where they raised their family. Marge worked in retail stores and local shoe factories.

Marge was always a fun, happy and loving person, being known for her beautiful smile. But then dementia interfered with her normal daily activities, trapping her body and mind and stealing what Marge was known for.

She enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and other outdoor activities with her husband. She was a giver, of both her time and attention. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always making sure she was there for many of their events.

Marge enjoyed socializing with friends; she loved to dance, bowl, read, work on crossword puzzles, sew, work in her flower garden, and bake her famous apple pies from apples grown in Dad’s little orchard. She was a member of the New Auburn Senior Citizens, where she enjoyed their monthly lunches and bingo games. She loved her time swimming with her friends at the YWCA, swimming up to a mile each day before her illness.

She touched so many and will be missed very much.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Albin (Ben); her son, Mark Lizotte and his wife, Linda; her daughter, Patricia Provost and her husband, Patrick; her five grandsons, Steven Lizotte and his wife, Katie, Jeffrey Lizotte and his wife, Becky, Seth Provost and his wife, Trudie, Scott Provost, and Corey Provost and his wife, Heather; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Briggs of Rochester, New York; several sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews; and her best friends, Maurice and Claudette Nadeau, Don and Judy Campeau, and Lorraine Adams.

She was predeceased by her son, Thomas Lizotte; her parents; brothers, John, George and Robert Hopkins; and sister, Elizabeth Foss.

Heartfelt thanks to the staff from Galway Unit at Clover Manor for the love and care they give to all their residents who become their family, including our mom. Heartfelt thanks as well to Margaret, Denise, Michelle and Mona from Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice for their care and compassion.
