POLAND — The Board of Selectmen announced at its meeting Tuesday night that Fire Chief Mark Bosse has been named acting town manager until a replacement can be found.
Town Manager Bradley Plante will not be renewing his three-year term, which runs out at the end of March. He has been Poland’s town manager since February 2014.
Bosse will be acting town manager starting April 1, until Plante’s replacement is hired.
“Thank you, Mark, very much for stepping up, and we look forward to working with you during this transition time,” board Chairman Walter Gallagher said.
Selectman Janice Kimball said they hope to have the position filled by June.
The board has a timeline for filling the position, starting with placing an advertisement. Kimball said March 28 is the deadline for resumes. Selectmen will review their options on March 31.
They will chose eight candidates by April 5 and hold their first round of interviews April 19 and 20. A second round of interviews for the finalists will start May 4, and negotiations will begin May 8.
“We’re hopeful we can find someone the first time around,” Kimball said.
In other news, Candidates Night will be held at 7 p.m. on March 23.
The town is looking to fill positions for the Board of Selectmen, the School Committee, Budget Committee and Charter Commission.
The board authorized posting 48 roads on which no vehicle weighing over 23,000 pounds will be allowed.
They also approved the purchase and upgrade of air bottles and compression packs for Poland Fire and Rescue. The total cost of $115,020 will be split between the tax-increment financing account and a designated fund from the Capital Improvement Plan. The upgrades are necessary to meet new government standards.
