PARIS — Bail was set at $10,000 Wednesday in 11th District Court for a New York man charged with aggravated trafficking in heroin and cocaine.

Dennis “Rocky” Roman, 36, of Brooklyn, New York, was one of two men arrested Tuesday at an apartment at 2 Paris Hill Road in Paris where drug agents found $5,000 worth of cocaine and heroin, and $2,500 cash.

Roman was charged with Class A aggravated trafficking of scheduled drugs and a single count of Class B unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs.

Class A crimes other than murder are punishable by up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000; Class B crimes are punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000.

Jose “Justo” Rivera, 24, of Brooklyn, New York, was also arrested at the apartment and charged with violating the conditions of his release. Rivera was out on bail on previous cocaine and heroin charges, according to a news release from Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Maine Drug Enforcement agent Zane Loper wrote in an affidavit that he served a search warrant at the apartment and, “As I entered the residence, special agent Tony Milligan observed a subject open a window at the back of the residence and throw a baggie and other items out of the residence.” That person was identified by agent Jeffrey Campbell as Roman.

“The items were recovered from the back of the residence and were identified as 14 grams of cocaine base,” Loper wrote.

Agents searched Roman’s room and identified “a plastic baggie containing nine grams of heroin, digital scales, plastic baggies used for packaging and over 2,000 dollars in U.S. currency,” according to the affidavit.

The drugs had a street value of $5,000, MDEA Supervisor Matt Cashman said, according to the news release.

The men were taken to the Oxford County Jail in Paris. Roman’s bail conditions include no use or possession of alcohol or illegal drugs, and no possession of dangerous weapons.

The MDEA agents were assisted by Oxford, Norway and Paris police, Maine State Police and the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office.

Agents are continuing their investigation and additional arrests are expected, according to a news release.
