LEWISTON — Real-life heroes who took extraordinary actions — putting themselves in danger — to save the life of others in 2016, will be honored by the American Red Cross in Central and Mid Coast Maine on Tuesday, March 14, at a Real Heroes Breakfast ceremony.
The public is invited to attend the event, meet the heroes and hear their stories, from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the Ramada Inn and Conference Center, 490 Pleasant St.
In total, the agency will honor seven extraordinary individuals, the crew of LifeFlight Maine and the Rapid Intervention Teams of the Poland, Oxford and Norway fire departments.
This year’s award recipients include a passerby who stopped at the scene of an apartment fire in Bethel in the early-morning hours, kicked down the door to alert sleeping residents and worked to clear the building saving nine people from the blaze.
Also honored will be a 15-year-old Sabattus teen who rescued his mom and four siblings when an outside wood boiler ignited their home, and a Dresden man and his 4-year-old son, who rescued and resuscitated a drowned toddler one afternoon at an Augusta playground.
Tickets can be purchased by contacting April Caron at the American Red Cross in Central and Mid Coast Maine, 475 Pleasant St., Suite 25, Lewiston, by calling 207-272-4569 or online at www.redcross.org/local/maine/news-events.
