ANDOVER — Andover’s librarian, Janet Farrington, and her friend, Hazel Wightman, were key cheerleaders and supportive advisers for a fundraising campaign spearheaded by local lake water quality volunteer monitors Ross and Christine Swain.
The Swains are volunteers for the Maine Volunteer Lake Monitoring Program and track water quality indicators at Roxbury Pond, also known as Ellis Pond or Silver Lake.
One of those indicators is the amount of dissolved oxygen in the water. The current meter that measures DO is almost worn out and the time had come to replace it before spring ice-out.
With the help of many hands, from pond residents to the general public, money for the $1,000 equipment was successfully raised in one month.
