AUBURN — The Auburn Public Library has announced its upcoming teen programs for the month of April.
Maine Job Corps: Hanya Phillips is making appointments to meet at the library to discuss Job Corps programs and eligibility. FMI: 207-450-0216
Tweens in the Teen Space: 12 to 2 p.m. Wednesdays, April 5, 12 and 26, in the Teen Space. Sixth graders are invited to come to the Teen Space on the second floor on half-day Wednesdays. Tweens can craft, play board games, hang out or get a head start on homework.
Teen Anime Club: 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, in the Androscoggin Community Room. Teens, ages 12 to 18, can drop in to talk about their favorite (or least favorite) manga, watch this week’s selection of anime, and try drawing characters. Snacks will be provided.
Homework Help: 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Thursdays, April 6, 13, 20 and 27, in Study Room 223. This program is just for teens, ages 12 to 18, and takes place on the second floor.
Teens! Friday @ the Movies: 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, April 7, in the Androscoggin Community Room. In honor of Earth Day on April 22, teens will choose between “Hoot” or “Wall-E.” This program is just for teens, ages 12 to 18, and will include a snack.
Teens! Snack Chat: 3 to 4 p.m. Monday, April 10, in the Teen Space. The library will offer a healthy after school snack and some conversation about current events. This program is just for teens, ages 12 to 18.
Teens! Gaming Hour: 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, and 3 to 4 p.m. Friday, April 28, in the Androscoggin Community Room. XBox and Wii systems will be available for use. Only games rated Teen, or younger, allowed. This program is just for teens, ages 12 to 18.
Author Visit: Maria Padian: 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday, April 13, in the Teen Space. As part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Maine author Maria Padian will be in the Teen Space to read an excerpt from her newest book, “Wrecked,” and lead a discussion about issues of consent in relationships. Community educators Whitney Parrish from Safe Voices and Hannah Johnson, from the Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Services, will also join the discussion. This program is for teens and new adults, ages 13 to 21.
Great Stories Club: Structures of Suffering: 4:30 to 6 p.m. Fridays, April 14 and 28, in the Teen Space. The first meeting will discuss the first half of the book, “Thirteen Reasons Why.” The following week will complete the discussion of the book and distribute copies of the second book to be discussed, “It’s Kind of a Funny Story.” Teens must be available for the book discussions on May 12 and 26 to receive a copy of this book. Registration is required.
Teens! DIY Takeover: Poetry & Pancakes: 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, in the Teen Space. Since April is National Poetry Month, teens are invited to bring their own poetry, or some of their favorite poems, to share. Pancakes will also be served. This program is just for teens, ages 12 to 18.
Teens! Earth Day Celebration: 4 to 5 p.m. Friday, April 21, in the Teen Space. In honor of Earth Day, April 22, information on things to do in the community and related crafts will be available. This program is just for teens, ages 12 to 18.
Teen Life Skills: 3 to 4 p.m. Monday, April 24, in the Teen Space, and Tuesday, April 25, in the Androscoggin Community Room. In the second of three classes, the 2017 Teen Life Skills series brings attention to Money Smart Week. This presentation will include tips and discussions about financial instruments like a checkbook, debit card, credit card, student loans versus career choices, debt, importance of credit score, budgeting basics and more. This workshop is designed just for teens, ages 12 to 18. The third and final class, 10 Tips for Teens, will teach how to add more fruits and veggies to a regular diet, as well as basic cooking skills. Participants will make and eat a chosen recipe, play games and win prizes. This series is just for teens, ages 12 to 18. Registration is requested.
DIY Teens! Media Club: 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, in the CREATE! Media Lab. The media lab allows participants to create their own trailers, pod-casts and more, which will be posted on the library website. This program is just for teens, ages 12 to 18.
SAPARS Drop in Visit: 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday, April 27, in the Teen Space. Each month, Molly from Sexual Assault Prevention & Response Services will visit to discuss and create awareness of teen issues, like healthy relationships, sexual assault, bullying, harassment, substance use and abuse and internet safety. Just for teens, this event may include snacks.
