Lewiston’s state lawmakers plan a town hall forum this month to talk about the proposed Democratic budget.

The five legislators said they will talk about what they call the “Opportunity Agenda” where they will provide information and answer questions to anyone who shows up.

The session is slated for 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 25 in the Callahan Hall at Lewiston Public Library.

Expected to attend are Sen. Nate Libby, the assistant Democratic leader in the Senate, and Reps. Jared Golden, Heidi Brooks, James Handy and Roger Fuller. Golden is the assistant House Democratic leader. All five are Democrats.

As they describe the Democratic alternative to Gov. Paul LePage’s proposed two-year budget, it offers “the largest property tax cut in Maine history; invests in jobs and the economy; fully funds public schools; makes college degrees more affordable and attainable; supports families, seniors, children and veterans; and provides meaningful student debt relief.”

They say they can pull it off without raising any new taxes and without  “unnecessary cuts” in spending.
