BRUNSWICK – A Wilton man was arrested Tuesday after getting off a train in downtown Brunswick with 120 grams — 1,200 doses — of fentanyl  in his pocket, according to a release from Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Public Safety Department.

The drugs had a street value of $20,000.

Maine Drug Enforcement agents from the Mid-Coast District Task Force had information that James Young-Dumont, 32, frequently traveled from Haverhill, Massachusetts, on an Amtrak train to purchase heroin and fentanyl in bulk then returned to Maine where he would repackage the drugs for resale, according to McCausland.

Young-Dumont attempted to run from officers when he got off the train at about 4:30 p.m. but was quickly taken into custody.

Agents and Brunswick police arrested Young-Dumont on charges of Class A aggravated trafficking in scheduled W drugs- Fentanyl, a warrant for failure to appear and a charge of violation of bail, according to McCausland.

A conviction on the trafficking charge is punishable by a maximum 30 years in prison and a $50,000 fine.

There was an outstanding warrant for Young-Dumont’s arrest for failure to appear in an Ellsworth court on a charge of possession of schedule drugs. He was free on bail on that charge, according to McCausland.

Young-Dumont is also on probation in Massachusetts for a previous drug charge and had an outstanding warrant out of that state for a probation violation, the release stated.

He was taken to Cumberland County Jail in Portland where no bail was set due to his bail violation. Young-Dumont remained there Wednesday morning.

Agents were also assisted by railroad police.
