The highlight of events which herald the arrival of spring and coming graduations is the annual junior-senior prom when the girls have a chance to wear lovely long gowns and the boys change their sports clothes for dinner jackets. This year the three high schools, St. Dominic’s, Lewiston and Edward Little, held their proms last night. St. Peter’s School Hall, where students of St. Dominic’s High School and their guests (night) away , was decorated in the theme of “Egyptian Splendor.” A miniature carousel centered the dance floor at the Edward Little gymnasium emphasizing the carnival theme. “Love Makes the World Go Round” was made a reality at the Lewiston Memorial Armory for the LHS ball.

Athletes from area communities gathered at Bates College last Friday, all part of a regional track and field meet sponsored by Special Olympics of Maine. More than 75 challenged athletes held to their promise — to do their best — as they recited the Special Olympics pledge under the direction of Lewiston Mayor James Howaniec. Runner Shawn Levasseur of Edward Little High School lit the giant ceremonial torch marking the traditional opening of the games. Students and their coaches and teachers from Lewiston, Auburn, Turner, Leeds and Greene marched in procession to the Lewiston High School band to the cheers of friends and families.
