Homebrewers meeting

NORWAY — A meeting of the Western Foothills Homebrewers will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 17,  at the headquarters of the Center for an Ecologically Based Economy, located at 447 Main St.

The meeting is free to the public, and all home brewers are invited to attend and encouraged to bring ideas, brewing tips and recipes. Adjoining the CEBE office is the Fare Share Market, which offers home brew supplies and ingredients, and will be open before and during the meeting, until 7 p.m.

Texas Hold’em tourney May 20

LOCKE MILLS — Jackson-Silver 68, American Legion, will host a Texas Hold’em poker tournament will be held Saturday, May 20, at 595 Gore Road.

Doors will open at 11 a.m., and games will begin at 1 p.m.

There will be a 50/50, pull tabs, meals and beverages available.

Boxberry School spring social, auction

HARRISON — The Boxberry school will host its ninth annual spring social and silent auction from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, May 20, at Camp Fernwood Cove, 350 Island Pond Road.

The event will feature appetizers prepared by Camp Fernwood Cove’s chef, wine tastings, and desserts.

Child care will be provided at no cost.

‘The Veggies’ at AMVETS Post 33

Clean up day at community center

PARIS — The new Deering Memorial Community Center is hosting a clean up day for the building from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 20, at 39 Main St.

There will be outside and inside jobs for volunteers, and volunteers are welcome to come by at any point throughout the event.

Donations of cleaning supplies, snacks, and coffee will be accepted. Most needed supplies are furniture polish, floor cleaner, all-purpose surface cleaners, window cleaner, bathroom cleaner, cloths, sponges, cleaning gloves, etc.

Those attending can also help by bringing rakes and brooms.

Literacy Festival May 20, 21

WEST FARMINGTON — Literacy Volunteers of Franklin and Somerset County will be holding the annual  book sale during the Literacy Festival at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 20, and at 10 a.m. Sunday, May 21, at the Elk’s Lodge.

Saturday activities include a shadow puppet theater, music, a petting zoo, and other children’s activities. 

Sunday activities include an origami demonstration, music, and story-reading for children.

Food will be available for sale.

All proceeds from this benefit go to promoting literacy in our community.

Weary Club to meet
