WILTON — Selectpersons will hold a public hearing Tuesday, May 16, on an application for a Community Development Block Grant for Carrier Welding and Fabrication.
The board will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Wilton Public Safety Building on Main Street, because elections are being held at the Town Office.
Nathan Carrier bought property on Depot Street last summer to serve as a base for his welding-fabrication work.
Carrier is seeking $240,000 in grants and will secure $270,000 in loans to purchase more equipment and provide operating capital, said Darryl Sterling, a community and economic development consultant for the town.
The business has orders from throughout New England. With more equipment and operating capital, Carrier is expected to create eight new jobs.
The business can handle all types of welding and fabrication including specialty welding for the Department of Defense, transportation and piping, Sterling said.
Following the public hearing, selectpersons are expected to vote whether to approve the grant application.
