SKOWHEGAN — Tommy Turgeon belted an RBI double in the ninth inning to lift Lewiston to a 8-7 baseball win over Skowhegan on Wednesday.
The Blue Devils took a 5-1 lead in the first frame and added single runs in the sixth, seventh and ninth.
The Indians rallied to score three runs in the third and two more in the fourth.
Spruce Mountain 6, Belfast 4
JAY — Austin Gilboe scattered six hits and drew adequate run support as Spruce Mountain hung on to record a 6-4 baseball win over Belfast on Wednesday.
Jordy Daigle led the Phoenix (6-4) with two RBIs, while Devin Pomeroy and Nick Lombardi each belted out a pair of hits.
Zack Dyer and Greg Dinsmore led Belfast (4-7) with two hits apiece.
Kennebunk 7, Poland 1
POLAND — Justin Wiggins fired a two-hitter Wednesday as Kennebunk shut down Poland and hustled to a 7-1 victory in more local baseball action.
Bryan Hickey, Matt Smith, Ian Connors and Alex Champagne led the hit parade for Kennebunk (3-9) with two hits each.
Ben Bernier worked the first six frames for the Knights (3-9) and suffered the loss.
Oak Hill 9, Boothbay 2
WALES — Matt Clifford stepped it up on the mound for Oak Hill on Wednesday, scattering three hits and striking out 11 as Oak Hill rolled to a 9-2 baseball rout over Boothbay.
Caleb Treadwell led the Raiders (4-6) with two hits and two RBIs, while Brent Mulherin belted out two hits and drove in one run.
Clifford was the first to reach base in a huge eight-run second inning. The struggling Seahawks (2-8) committed five errors in the frame to effectively take themselves out of contention.
Edward Little 13, Brunswick 4
BRUNSWICK — The Red Eddies rallied for seven runs in the third inning as Edward Little sailed to a 13-4 victory over Brunswick in baseball action Wednesday afternoon.
The Red Eddies (10-2) placed 12 hits on the board. CJ Jipson posted the only extra-base tally with a double.
Kyle Hansen scattered three hits for the Dragons (0-9) in the losing effort.
Oxford Hills 10, Lawrence 5
FAIRFIELD — Jackson Crane collected two hits and two RBIs, while pitching three innings in relief as Oxford Hills doubled up Lawrence 10-5 in baseball action Wednesday afternoon.
The Vikings (4-0) went on an 11-hit attack and scored eight runs in the first three innings to stake their claim. Sophomore first baseman Ashton Keniston launched a home run as one of his three hits for Oxford Hills.
Devin Webb recorded two hits and crossed the plate twice for the Bulldogs in the losing effort.
Mountain Valley 13, Dirigo 1
RUMFORD — Mountain Valley scored eight first-inning runs, highlighted by Dylan Desroches’ bases-loaded double, on its way to a 13-1 triumph over Dirigo in an MVC baseball matchup Wednesday.
Fischer Cormier had a pair of hits for the Falcons, including one of the team’s five doubles, in the contest.
Hunter Ames notched the victory on the mound, while Cooper Chaisson took the loss for Dirigo, scattering four hits. Luke Leuders paced the Cougars (4-7) with a pair of singles.
Softball
Lawrence 5, Oxford Hills 2
FAIRFIELD — Molly Folsum nailed a two-run single in a four-run fourth inning for Lawrence as the Bulldogs ran away with a 5-2 triumph over Oxford Hills in softball action Wednesday afternoon.
Senior first baseman Erin Morton had three hits for the Vikings (6-4) in the losing effort.
Telstar 16, Wiscasset 2
WISCASSET — Freshman shortstop Aneah Bartlett cracked a two-run single and a triple for four RBIs as Telstar cruised to a 16-2 victory over Wiscasset in softball action Wednesday afternoon.
The Rebels (7-3) put 13 runs on the board in the first three innings. Senior centerfielder Natasha Hart had a pair of two-run singles for four RBIs for Telstar.
Stephanie Jones had two hits and scored a run for the Wolverines (1-9) in the losing effort.
Belfast 7, Spruce Mountain 5
JAY — Maya Cunningham ripped two singles and a double for three RBIs as Belfast dispatched Spruce Mountain 7-5 in softball action Wednesday afternoon.
The Lions rung up five runs in the first inning and led 7-0 before the Phoenix were able to return fire with three runs in the bottom of the third.
Senior pitcher Alex Bessey posted three hits for Spruce Mountain in the losing effort.
Edward Little 10, Brunswick 1
BRUNSWICK — The Red Eddies exploded for seven runs in the first inning as Edward Little scooped up a 10-1 decision in softball action Wednesday afternoon.
Pitcher Kylie Bureau had a double and a single to help her cause on the mound for the Red Eddies (10-2). Grace Beaudet contributed two hits, three runs scored an an RBI for Edward Little.
Shelby Plourde broke up the no-hitter with a double to lead off the seventh inning for the Dragons (0-8). She scored on an RBI ground out by Keturah Stinson.
Skowhegan 1, Lewiston 0
LEWISTON — Sydney Ames belted ripped an RBI single in the seventh inning to lift Skowhegan to a 1-0 victory over Lewiston in a softball tilt Wednesday.
Ames also earned the pitching win with a solid performance, while Annie Cooke led the squad with two hits.
Danielle Cyr went 3-for-3 to lead the Blue Devils’ (7-4) offensive effort and also suffered her first loss of 2017.
Leavitt 6, Winslow 3
TURNER — Leavitt put two strong innings together, scoring five runs in the fourth and fifth frames, to pull off a 6-3 late-season softball victory over Winslow on Wednesday.
Bri Noniewiecz drove in two runs for the Hornets (8-3) with a double, while Abby Robertson plated a run in the fifth.
Natalie Greene led Winslow (8-3) with a double and one run scored.
Kennebunk 7, Poland 4
POLAND — Britney Gregoire ignited a three-run rally in the third inning as Kennebunk pulled away to record a 7-4 win over Poland in a late-season softball tilt.
Gregoire and her sister Lindsey led Kennebunk with two hits and one RBI each, while Emily Hague earned the pitching win.
Sarah Walton led the Knights (5-7) with a double and a triple.
Monmouth 7, Hall-Dale 3
FARMINGDALE — Hannah Anderson belted a pair of hits and drove in three runs Wednesday as Monmouth hustled to a 7-3 softball win over Hall-Dale.
Anderson led the Mustangs (10-2) with her offensive prowess, while Emily Caplan and Katie Harris also pounded out two hits.
Alisia Bonenfant led the Bulldogs (4-5) with two hits in the contest.
Mountain Valley 8, Dirigo 2
RUMFORD — Mountain Valley’s Emily Laubauskas struck out 15 batters while giving up just two hits as they defeated Dirigo 8-2 in an MVC softball match Wednesday.
Laubauskas also paced the Falcons (4-4) in their first game of the day with two singles and a double at the plate. Grace Briggs added a pair of singles in the victory.
Winthrop 2, Mountain Valley 0
RUMFORD — Winthrop scored an unearned run in the top of the fourth inning and got seven shutout innings from pitcher Layne Audet as the Ramblers nipped Mountain Valley 2-0 in MVC softball action Wednesday afternoon.
Audet led off the fourth inning by reaching on a two-base error on a misplayed ball in the outfield by the Falcons (4-5). Audet moved to third on a passed ball and came in to score the game’s first run when another ball was misplayed in shallow left field.
Mountain Valley pitcher Emily Laubauskas took the tough-luck loss while striking out 12 hitters and scattering three hits.
Matti Rice had a pair of singles to lead Winthrop (7-3).
Oak Hill 23, Boothbay 0
WALES — Oak Hill plated 11 runs in the first inning en route to a 23-0 victory over Boothbay in softball action.
Oak Hill (7-3) pounded out 12 hits, including three from catcher Emma Hlister. Hlister ripped a home run, a double and had a pair of RBIs. Charlotte Waterman had three hits while driving in three runs. Julia Ahlberg also had a single, a home run and two RBIs in the win.
Sadie Waterman earned the victory on the mound, pitching the first inning, followed by Molly Flaherty for the final four innings. Boothbay (0-9) got singles from Cheyanne Rogers and Tori Morin.
Girls’ lacrosse
Edward Little 12, Oxford Hills 4
AUBURN — Megan Steele netted five goals Wednesday to lead Edward Little to a 12-4 late-season girls’ lacrosse rout over Oxford Hills.
Piper Norcross chipped in for the Red Eddies with four goals, while Kaylee Jipson scored twice. A single goal by Haley Frohlich completed the scoring.
Derry Bessette, Cassidy Walo, Hannah Hartnett and Caroline Burns all scored goals for the Vikings. Mariah Vaillancourt made nine saves for Edward Little, while Anna Huff turned aside 10 shots between the posts for Oxford Hills.
