JAY — Spruce Mountain baseball coach Brian Dube earned his 200th victory as the Phoenix defeated Winslow 15-3 in five innings Monday.
Austin Gilboe picked up the victory on the mound for the Phoenix (9-4), while also tallying three hits and three RBIs at the plate. Jordan Daigle and Shane Pelletier each had two hits and two RBIs. Noah Preble had two hits, and Devan Pomeroy had a RBI double in the first inning.
Dan Gagnon had a lead-off double for Winslow (1-12) in the fourth, the inning in which they scored all three of their runs.
NYA 15, Buckfield 6
BUCKFIELD — North Yarmouth Academy erupted for six runs in the third inning and went on to post a 15-6 late-season baseball win over Buckfield on Monday.
Xander Kostelnik and Dana Nichols led North Yarmouth (4-6) with three hits and two RBIs each, with Nichols igniting that key third frame with a grand slam.
Ethan Jackson led the Bucks (7-6) with a pair of solo home runs. Jackson also suffered the pitching loss after working the first five innings.
Sacopee Valley 5, Poland 4
HIRAM — Right fielder Dillon Massee launched a two-run home run to lead Sacopee Valley to a 5-4 victory over Poland in baseball action Monday afternoon.
The Knights (3-10) were leading 3-1 going into the bottom of the sixth when Sacopee Valley rallied for three runs, including Massee’s two-run shot.
After the Knights tied up the game in the top of the seventh, the Hawks (6-7) loaded bases with one out in the bottom of the frame. Sacopee Valley then plated a run on a fielder’s choice for the walkoff win.
Senior first baseman Caleb Hodgkin went 2-for-4 with a triple and a single and scored two runs for Poland in the losing effort.
Softball
Madison 9, Telstar 1
BETHEL — Maddy Wood hurled five innings of two-hit ball Monday and drew ample run support as perennial powerhouse Madison rolled to a 9-1 romp over Telstar in late-season softball action.
The undefeated Bulldogs (12-0) erupted for five runs in the second inning, ignited by Wood’s two-run home run. Whitney Bess and Sydney LeBlanc belted RBI doubles as the rally continued.
Taylor Mason led the Rebels (7-5) with a pair of hits, while Kylee Martin suffered the loss.
Sacopee Valley 15, Poland 8
SOUTH HIRAM — After jumping out to a five-run advantage in the first inning, Sacopee Valley never eased off the gas and raced away to a 15-8 late-season softball rout over Poland on Monday afternoon.
Jordan Miner led the Hawks (9-4) with two hits and two RBIs. Brynn Hink earned the pitching victory.
Maddy Simard led the Knights (5-8) with three hits, while Ally Gagne pounded out two hits.
Oak Hill 7, Lisbon 0
WALES — Kiera Young’s double sparked the Oak Hill’s offense in the fourth inning as the Raiders scored three times en route to a 7-0 softball victory over rival Lisbon on Monday.
Young and Hannah Nadeau each had three hits for the Raiders (9-3). Julia Ahlberg had two hits and an RBI. Sadie Waterman had five strikeouts and forced many groundouts to pick up the victory.
Lisbon falls to 9-4.
Girls’ lacrosse
Gardiner 16, Edward Little 14
GARDINER — Haile Lovely scored a game-high nine goals as Gardiner nipped Edward Little 16-14 in girls’ lacrosse action Monday afternoon.
The Red Eddies led 9-4 at the half. Megan Steele netted six goals and Hayley Frohlich tabulated four for Edward Little.
The Tigers came roaring back in the second half with a 12-5 run. Evelyn Hinkley contributed three goals for Gardiner.
Goalie Mariah Vaillancourt made seven saves for Edward Little, while goalie Julia Hinkley also prevented seven to earn the win in net for Gardiner.
