LEWISTON – Police in Cumberland County issued a bulletin on Thursday advising that a Lewiston man has threatened to kill a large number of cops.
Police say Jibril Muse Koshin, 40, listed as a transient, told hospital workers in Lewiston that he was “looking for a way to assassinate 15 or more police officers.”
According to the bulletin, Koshin last month told a Lewiston police officer directly that he would follow the officer home and kill his family.
“Extreme caution should be exercised with any contact with Koshin as his behavior is unpredictable,” according to the bullet.
Koshin has been described as both homicidal and suicidal, police said.
He has been the subject of safety bulletins in the past, police said, including one posted last year in reference to threats made against court officials in Cumberland County.
Koshin was arrested in Portland for those threats and was ordered to refrain from contacting court officials, according to the bulletin.
“In addition to the threats, Koshin told the marshal staff that he knew how to gain entry into the court building via an employee entrance,” it states in the bulletin. “As a result of that information, steps were taken to further secure the courthouse.”
Koshin has also been arrested in Brunswick and Westbrook. In Lewiston, he has a criminal record of assaults, trespassing, drunken driving and failure to show up in court for hearings. In 2010, a charge of assault on a police officer was dismissed in Androscoggin County Superior Court.
At the time, Koshin listed an address at 78 Maple St. in Lewiston.
Lewiston police on Thursday did not respond to inquiries about the safety bulletin. It was unknown if they had advised their patrol officers to be on the lookout for Koshin.
