DEAR SUN SPOTS: Come help the Farmington Public Library celebrate its first “pop-up silent auction” at the Calico Patch!

Emily Bilodeau and the Calico Patch are hosting the first of many pop-up silent auctions to benefit the Farmington Public Library.

Every two months a different local business will sponsor one silent auction item to benefit the library. The goal is to raise money and awareness for the library’s needs and to promote local businesses and products.

Emily Bilodeau has graciously donated a one-hour hot stone massage and the Calico Patch is where you may bid on it. Bidding closes June 16.

If you would like to host a “pop-up” or would like to donate an item or service, please contact Barb Marshall at 578-0286, bmarshall@mtbluersd.org  We are also open to hearing other new ideas for helping the library.

ANSWER: What a lovely idea! Our public libraries are important to our communities, and it’s wonderful to see businesses pitching in to help.

The Cutler Memorial Library is a lovely Beaux Arts stone building, designed by Auburn architect William R. Miller and built from 1901-03. Its exterior is made of granite quarried in North Jay.

According to library records, the building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

It’s an active library, with a current collection of over 30,000 books, regular art showings and a roster of volunteers who help teach literacy.

This month, Joyce Dubay, who is an award-winning painter who works in oil and watercolor, will be featured. In July, scenic artist Marjorie Austin will be featured. At the end of July, the library will raffle off works from each artist to benefit the library. Tickets are available at the library.

So, how about it Farmington? Please support your local library.

DEAR SUN SPOTS:  I know the column has answered this before, but I have an old clock (with a pendulum) that needs to be repaired. Do you have a list of clock doctors? Thanks.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Some time in mid-April I lost my UNE class ring. I became aware it was missing while shopping at Walmart.

The ring was a gift from my late spouse of 42 years, as I completed the 60-credit MSW program.

The ring is gold, with inscriptions on each side (MSW on one side and 97 on the other).  In addition, my initials (g.l.l.) are inscribed along the inside of the ring.

I have posted the loss of my ring on social media, but I think that followers of Sun Spots may be of additional help.  I am pleased to offer a reward.

My phone number is 207-225-2111.
