WILTON — Police say a tractor-trailer hauling 8,500 gallons of water overturned early Wednesday morning on U.S. Route 2 near the NAPA store when the driver fell asleep.
Elsie Martinolich, 56, of Lewiston, was not injured after rolling the tractor and trailer onto its side shortly after midnight, according to a statement from Wilton Police Chief Heidi Wilcox.
Martinolich was driving a 2017 Kenworth owned by Superior Trucking of South Berwick and was hauling water for Poland Spring.
She was traveling west on Rt. 2 when she fell asleep, crossed the opposite lane and rolled in the ditch on the east-bound side of Rt. 2, Wilcox said.
Central Maine Power was called because the truck came to rest near a utility pole and junction box.
Officer Tyler Fournier investigated the accident. Officers from Farmington Police and members of Wilton Fire Department assisted at the scene.
The truck received extensive damage and was towed from the scene by Dutch Gap Auto.
