BRIDGTON — Local artist Rusty Wiltjer, an extraordinary potter and musician well known for his creative and unique clay designs, will be the featured artist at Gallery 302 from June 17 to July 12. Wiltjer was hooked on being a potter at the age of 19 while attending Ohio State University. From the moment he sat in front of a throwing wheel and put his hands on the wet clay he knew instantly what he wanted to do in life. His designs have run the gamut from windchimes to sinks to musical instruments, and most recently, a line of cookware.

The theme of his exhibit will be “Healthy Cooking & Eating with Clay.” Wiltjer’s work will focus on pottery that can be used for the stove top and open fire cooking as well as special decorative crocks designed for fermenting healthier foods.

Also known for his unique ceramic drums and his ability as a musician, Wiltjer will be sharing these talents with us as well. A reception will be held on Friday, June 23, from 5 to 7 p.m at Gallery 302, 112 Main St. and his ceramic drums will be part of the show. There will be extra drums present on the evening of this “interactive” artist reception for all who wish to participate in the drumming.
