OXFORD — Responsible Pet Care of Oxford Hills is gearing up to host the fifth annual Fun Dog Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 25, at the Oxford Fairgrounds, rain or shine.
The day is held every year as a fundraiser to help with the costs associated with running the shelter and providing food, shelter and medical care for the more than 700 animals that come through the doors each year.
The event offers several activities for people and their dogs. It kicks off with the Fun Dog Walk where dog lovers and their dogs can help fundraise by receiving pledge money and taking part in the annual walk. However, everyone is welcome to join the walk.
There are several prizes available for the top three individuals raising the most money for youths under 16 and adults, as well as an event T-shirt for anyone raising $25 or more and a swag bag of goodies for participants who raise $50 or more.
One of the most interactive events of the day is the Fun Dog Show competition for dogs and their handlers. Does your dog have the best trick; greyest muzzle; is the cutest puppy; or has the best hair? Enter the competition for bragging rights.
After the Fun Dog Show, Wayne’s Water World, a water park and rest area for dogs with swimming pools, lounge chairs and pool toys, will be available.
Responsible Pet Care will welcome several new businesses, including Cheryl Johnson’s Caricature Drawings, DeMotta’s Woodworking and Furry Kids Pet Photography of Minot. Returning are the RPC merchandise table and food booth, the Oxford County Animal Response Team, Nooksack Racing, Down East Sled Dog Club, Moose & Me Dog Training, Dog Rehabilitation Center of Maine, and Maine State Police with Trooper Adam Fillebrown and K9 Aros and Trooper Brian Hink and K9 Barry. The troopers and their dogs will give a demonstration at 2 p.m.
Responsible Pet Care is a nonprofit, no kill/no suffer animal shelter and adoption center serving more than 700 homeless or displaced pets each year, including dogs, cats and rabbits. All proceeds from the event will benefit the animals.
