LIVERMORE FALLS — Selectmen on Tuesday approved $35,000 to replace the sewer line on Bailey Street.
Sewer Superintendent Greg Given said the line that will be replaced extends from the intersection of Bailey Street and Route 133 to Marion Avenue.
“The pipe’s got sags in it, the pipe’s got breaks in it,” he explained.
Six-inch diameter piping will be put in. Given said Jean Castonguay Excavating of Livermore Falls will do the excavation work.
Money for the project will come out of the sewer checking account. Town Manager Kristal Flagg said there’s about $50,000 currently in the account.
She said that sewer bills will go out in July, which will bring in more revenue.
Selectmen also discussed a survey done recently of the fire station property to determine how much land the town owns. Flagg said the survey, which was done by Main-Land Development Consultants of Livermore Falls, showed the town owns more land than originally thought.
Bailey Bros. Ford has an abutting lot, and Flagg said the survey indicated about 20 feet of pavement originally thought to be owned by Bailey Bros. was actually town land.
In 2015, selectmen opted not to have more extensive work done on the deed as they were discussing renovations to the fire station, Flagg said. The town’s attorney drew up a written agreement between Bailey Bros. and the town on the lot boundaries.
“It’s not signed, it wasn’t notarized, and it never went before the voters,” Flagg said.
The town will soon start renovations on the fire station, and cars belonging to Bailey Bros. on town-owned land will have to be moved, she said.
“This is a business in our community,” Flagg said. “I hate to be disrespectful to her (Bailey Bros. owner Brenda Brochu) to her as an abutter and a business owner, but we do really need to move forward to go out to bid with construction on that site.”
“I guess my concern is I want to be sure enough of our positions that if push comes to shove and we go to court, we’ll win,” Selectman Tom Barker said.
Flagg said she would get clarification from the town’s attorney as to how the town should proceed with having cars moved from the town land.
