DIXFIELD — Two Dirigo High School seniors, Emillie Urban and Alex Ferland, after two years in the Metal Trades Program at Region 9, were awarded full scholarships to the Precision Machining Program at Central Maine Community College by Maine Machine Products Company, South Paris.
Maine Machine Products Company and Pete Barlow, metal trades instructor at Region 9, have had a longstanding partnership and over the years, many of his students have been awarded this scholarship.
The seniors will attend CMCC in the fall, with their tuition and books paid for by MMP Co. Each will have a part-time job during the school year and will work full time during the summer while earning their associates degree in the Precision Machining Program.
“Region 9 is extremely fortunate to have such a partnership with a local business and the Community College,” said Barlow. “The manufacturing industry is crying for workers right now, and it is great when some of our local kids are able to take advantage of such a high-tech, high-paying opportunity.”
