LIVERMORE — Selectpersons on Tuesday voted to close the Town Office at 4 p.m. Monday, July 3, for the Independence Day celebration.
Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls will celebrate the holiday July 3 with a 5 p.m. parade through Jay and Livermore Falls.
Selectpersons previously voted to close the office at noon June 30 to close out the fiscal year financial books.
The office will also be closed July 4.
Town Clerk Renda Guild said the Livermore Falls Town Office is closed next week because of staff shortages. Its residents will be able to do business in at the Livermore Town Office during regular hours.
“It’s a nice gesture,” Administrative Assistant Amy Byron said before the vote.
The board also elected Tom Gould as chairman and Mark Chretien as vice chairman.
In other business, the board voted have sand screened and moved to the new sand/salt shed. The sand had to be moved from the old shed before the new shed could be built last year. Approximately 3,800 yards were moved next door to property owned by R.S. Pidacks.
Road Foreman Roger Ferland said R.S. Pidacks will screen and move the sand for $3.50 per yard.
A total of “2,500 yards would cost $8,750,” Ferland said.
Ferland said there is about $18,000 left in the sand budget and $11,000 in the salt budget. He wants to get the work done while the sand is dry.
“That was the bottom of the pile where all the rocks were. I say get it done,” Chretien said.
“You won’t get a better time to do it,” Gould said.
The vote was unanimous. Selectperson Wayne Timberlake was absent.
