RUMFORD — Organizers of the River Valley Fourth of July celebration are asking for volunteers.
It will take place from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 4, followed by fireworks in the Hosmer Field Complex. The rain date is July 5.
Dan Richard, chairman of the Rumford Parks Commission and member of the Fourth of July Committee, said Central Maine Pyrotechnics is in charge of the display.
The master of ceremonies will be Dan Richard.
Among the entertainment will be a bouncy tent and slide for children and performances by Bustin’ Justin, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.; The Fordores, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.; J.T. Greene, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.; The Values, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.; and The Skidmarks, 8 p.m. until the fireworks.
The popular bike and wagon decorating parades will be coordinated by April McLean. She said there will also be face-painting and henna tattoos offered, as well as a dunk tank.
Mike Mills, superintendent of parks, said a major fundraiser for the committee is a basket filled with gift certificates donated by local businesses. The total value is more than $400, he said.
The basket is on display at Davis Florist on Congress Street. Tickets cost $6 for one or $10 for two. The drawing will be Tuesday evening.
There will be second- and third-place drawings for two Subway platter gift cards valued at $35.99 each.
There is also a raffle for an almost-new 15-speed girls’ bike with a helmet. Tickets are $1 each and drawn in the evening.
Ralph’s Store will provide 15 to 20 pizzas and eight to 10 cases of soda.
Other foods offered during the day include root beer floats, ice cream sundaes, foods made from the Snack Shack, apple crisp, potatoes, coffee and ice coffee.
