WILTON — The Board of Selectpersons voted unanimously Tuesday to table a request to renew liquor licenses for Wilton Golf Holdings LLC, doing business as Wilson Lake Country Club.
The reason is because $21,000 in real estate and personal property taxes have not been paid.
The nine-hole course has operated at 320 Weld Road since the early 1930s.
Selectperson David Leavitt moved to not act until the company presented a more business-friendly atmosphere toward the town.
Selectperson Ruth Cushman said it would be nice to see the company successfully operating, but it owes the town a lot of money. She questioned whether the town should license the business if it cannot pay its taxes.
Chairman Tiffany Maiuri agreed that a payment plan should at least be in place or she was not inclined to grant the license.
The company is trying to sell the business, Town Manager Rhonda Irish said. In previous years, discussions with them prompted some payment.
The board does not expect to meet again until July 18.
In other business, selectpersons approved holding a public meeting on the Forster Mill site July 18. A plan for the proposed abatement and demolition work will be explained. The plan includes what work will take place and the time frame for it, Irish said.
The town will need to provide an historical report for the Maine Historical Preservation Commission, she said. Cost estimates for the report are $25,000 to $30,000. Irish is trying to find funding to help with the expense or it will have to come from the demolition funds.
Selectpersons also approved bids for roofing work on the Public Safety Building and Public Works building. The contracts were awarded to Gladu Roofing of Lewiston, $35,878 for work on the Public Safety building and $55,396 for work on the Public Works building.
The board voted to close the Wilson Lake boat ramp during the Blueberry Festival slated for Aug. 4 and 5. The ramp will close from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Aug. 4 for boat rides provided by Friends of Wilson Lake and close Aug. 5 after the parade to prepare for festival fireworks.
