PARIS — The Paris Hill Music Festival will begin its first year of concerts at 7 p.m. Aug. 10 with the hometown favorite, Schooner Fare.

 

The festival will be held at the First Baptist Church of Paris at 500 Paris Hill Road.

 

Schooner Fare has won critical praise for captivating harmonies and winning stage presence. In addition to their numerous original songs on both contemporary and traditional themes, the band also writes and performs topical songs, country ballads and maritime masterpieces that have made their name synonymous with the “Down East” style.

Tickets are $25 and may be purchased at the Paris Hill Country Club and Bolster’s Decorating in Market Square, and at Books N Things on Main Street in Norway. Tickets may also be purchased via phone by calling 207-743-9390.

Other performers will include:

• The DaPonte String Quartet with classical music, 7 p.m. Aug. 11. Tickets $20;

•  Noel Paul Stookey from the group Peter, Paul, and Mary, 7 p.m. Aug. 12. Tickets $30; and

•  Chris Humphrey Jazz Quartet, 3 p.m. Aug. 13. Tickets $20.

There will be a Music Expo on Saturday, Aug. 12, on Paris Hill Common. Food and fair vendors will be there. Performers share their music from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. free to the public.

The festival is nonprofit and proceeds will go to future festivals, student music scholarships, and the renovation and maintenance of First Baptist Church of Paris which dates back to 1838 and has an authentic Revere bell.
