DEAR SUN SPOTS: In today’s paper, there was a letter to Sun Spots with a question about what to do with computers.
SeniorsPlus, at the Education Center, nearly every month has classes by a Tim Verrill. He answers lots of questions pertaining to computers. Most of them are free.
Just to let you know.
— No name, Auburn
ANSWER: We’re so glad to hear about this wonderful instructor.
SeniorsPlus is a great resource for our seniors. It was founded in 1972 in Lewiston and has a tremendous network that offers community support, information, services and resources for seniors and adults with disabilities and their families.
SeniorsPlus is very good about sending the Sun Journal announcements about upcoming classes, so make sure you check our Community News pages.
For more information about their programs, call 1-800-427-1241 or write to them at Info@SeniorsPlus.org.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I was wondering if you could identify some insects.
They are tiny reddish orange in color. They form in clusters on my neighbor’s garage. They are also on top of crushed rock in the back yard. They are very tiny.
Thank you so much.
— Mary, No town
ANSWER: Oh my! Bugs can be a real nuisance, and there are so many tiny varieties that we don’t think we can answer your question.
Could be clover mites, which are closely related to ticks and spiders. Might also be chiggers, which do cluster together.
The state of Maine maintains a bug identification database, which might help you, but your best bet would be to contact the Cooperative Extension, which is operated by the University of Maine. The nearest one to Lewiston is in Lisbon Falls.
If you call the main office at 800-287-0274, they’ll be able to put you in touch with the right person. They might need to see a picture of the cluster to recognize the bugs, but they’ll be able to tell you what you’re seeing.
Good luck!
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thank you to the very kind man and wife who stopped in the Minot-Hebron area on June 17 around 4 p.m. Thank you beyond words.
You attempted to get my car out of a bad situation by getting the deputy sheriff to come. You also took a chance to get me out, and I am very grateful. You got me safely out of danger.
And, thank you to the lady at the farm who gave me a chair while waiting.
Thank you to the couple who stayed until AAA came.
A million thanks can’t thank you all enough.
