FARMINGTON — Mold is growing and spreading on Sheetrock at one end of the Farmington Police Department garage, which has three bays and a mechanical room.
The garage was built in 2012.
Police noticed the mold on the walls of the last bay that abuts the mechanical room about a month ago, Deputy Police Chief Shane Cote said. There is also mold and mildew on the walls of the mechanical room and a short hallway that leads to it.
The cruisers are washed in that bay during colder months, but during the summer cruisers are washed outside, he said.
It is the only section of the garage that does not have metal covering the walls.
Part of the problem is there is no heating, ventilation or air conditioning, Cote said.
No mold appeared to be visible behind the metal walls when it was checked, he noted.
The town is advertising for bids for the removal and replacement of water-damaged, molded Sheetrock.
Bid packets are available at the Town Office. The bids need to be sent to the Farmington Municipal Building at 153 Farmington Falls Road no later than 3 p.m. on July 31. Bids will be opened at 3 p.m. and read aloud in the Municipal Building Conference Room.
The sealed bids need to be clearly marked Police Garage Repair Bid.
