NORWAY — Barbara Toothaker, 91, of Oxford passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 13, at Stephens Memorial Hospital with her family by her side.
She was born in Westbrook on October 15, 1925, the daughter of Arnold and Jenny Sewall Field. She graduated from Oxford High School in 1943. She married Leroy “Bucky” Toothaker in June 1948. She retired from being the manager of Oxford Mill End Store for over 30 years.
After her retirement, she started her own business, Mainely Quilts, making beautiful quilts, potholders, placemats, etc. She enjoyed camping with her husband Bucky, the ocean, and especially loved lighthouses. She also enjoyed going out to eat, public suppers and playing cards and games with her lifelong friends, Frank and Maggie Green and Ed and Leatrice Record.
She is survived by her children, Larry and Judy Toothaker, Peggy and Virgil Tilton and Dick and Brendalee Toothaker; grandchildren, Tricia Johnson, Kyle Kennison, Chris Kennison, Becki Kimball, Chad Toothaker and Kami Paine; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; and her sisters, Elizabeth Loring and Mary Coburn.
A special thanks to her friends at Stephens Memorial Hospital lab, Carol in the emergency room and Tayla on the medical/surgical unit, as well as the entire caring and attentive staff of nurses and doctors.
