AUBURN — Larry B. Lavoie, 88, passed away peacefully at Clover Manor on Monday, July 17, and is survived by a large and caring family who will miss him. Larry was born in Lewiston on June 14, 1929, the oldest child of Alice (Sevigny) and Alphonse Lavoie. He was raised in Lewiston and, for a time, on a farm in Monmouth. He served his country in the U.S. Army, being stationed in Korea and Japan just after the end of hostilities in World War II, and graduated from St. Dominic High School.
Larry married Irene Blouin on Oct. 22, 1949, at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Lewiston, and pursued a career at shoe factories in Lewiston-Auburn, Farmington, Livermore Falls, and Lowell, Mass., over more than three decades. Starting as a clerk in the purchasing department, he rose to become purchasing manager and, at the peak of his career, ran two shoe factories.
Larry is survived by his wife, Irene; and their five children, James of Sun City Center, Fla., Linda and her husband, Larry Lombard, of Mansfield Center, Conn., Frank and his wife, Melanie, of Cumberland Center, Janice and her husband, Dan Bureau, of Mount Vernon, and Brian of Vienna, Va.; ten grandchildren, Katie Cain, Alison Vandenburgh, Elizabeth Lombard, Shelley Buonacquisto, Andre Lavoie, Alex Lavoie, Bret Bureau, Justin Bureau, Emma Lavoie and Madeleine Lavoie; seven great-grandchildren; brothers Robert and Maurice (Bill); sisters Doris Meservier, Veny Lavoie, Joan Casavant and Louise Dema; along with many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
He was predeceased by brothers Aime and Norman, and sister, Jeannine Gosselin.
The family would like to express its gratitude to the staff of Clover Manor for their wonderful care and efforts to help Larry during his final months.
