TURNER — Hugo C. Black, 86, of Turner, formally of Cairo, Ga., passed away Wednesday, July 19, at his home. He was born in Summerville, Ga., on March 26, 1931, the son of the late Walter Lee Black and Annie Thelma Jones. His late grandparents, Sam and Pearl Jones, helped raise him after his father’s passing.
Hugo attended Baylor Military Academy before fighting in the Korean War. Hugo worked doing masonry and finish carpentry most of his life. He retired from the state of Florida after being employed as an exterminator. Hugo enjoyed family, dancing, singing, fishing, gardening, his favorite beer and woodworking. He often gave wooden toys to family and friends. In 1988, Hugo married Patricia Bond McCann, and they shared a loving marriage of over 29 years.
Hugo is survived by his wife; biological children, Hugo Jr., Larry, and Brenda Lee; stepchildren, Linda, Pam and her husband, Mike, Donna and her husband, Steve; his cousins, Bill and Agnes Jones and Bobby Beaty; and his special friends, Don and Martha Griffin.
He was predeceased by his parents; his grandparents, Hilliard and Lela Black, and his sister, Juanita Jones Grissom.
