FARMINGTON — The Upfront Gallery, a new gallery connected with the Upfront & Pleasant Gourmet at 155 Front St., will present “Wilderness Edge,” an exhibition of paintings by Shelah Horvitz from Aug. 4 to 31.

Horvitz’s paintings of animals, landscapes and plants explore the shifting balance between the wild and the domestic where wilderness meets civilization. The artist has exhibited in galleries and museums across the U.S. Her paintings and drawings have appeared in Art in AmericaArt New Englandthe Boston Globe, on billboards in Albany, New York and Atlanta, Georgia.

The exhibition at Upfront Gallery will have an opening reception from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4. During the next two Saturdays, Aug. 12 and 19, Horvitz will conduct workshops and demonstrations at the gallery from 2 to 4 p.m. Admittance is free, and anyone may attend.

Upfront Gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Parking is plentiful nearby.
