LEWISTON — Maynetta L. (Mace) French, 98, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 31, at Central Maine Medical Center.

She was born in Augusta on February 21, 1919, the daughter of the late Carl and Lona (Skillins) Mace.

Maynetta grew up in East Winthrop, and graduated from Winthrop High School in 1937. She went to the Maine School of Arts and graduated with a bachelor’s degree. She worked at Central Maine Power as an assistant civil engineer for over 30 years until her retirement. Maynetta was married to Bernard W. French from 1965 until his passing in 1972. Crocheting was her favorite pastime, and she manufactured the “Mini-Grani” bags, and sold over 10,000 of them worldwide. She also owned and operated Maynetta’s Card Shop in East Winthrop. She was a member of the CMP Old Timers Club, and the Central Maine Arts and Crafts Guild Inc.

Maynetta is survived by six cousins, Marie Tysinger and her husband, Bill, Jean Rhodes and her husband, Don, Frances Johnson, Roberta Seavey, Eleanor Seavey and Glen Skillins; her friend and guardian, Jim Cook and his wife, Paula; along with second cousins and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents and husband.
