AUBURN — The Androscoggin Land Trust will host a night of twilight paddling as a leg of the Androscoggin River Watershed Council’s Source to Sea Trek. The Paddle After Hours event will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3.
Paddlers will leave Auburn’s Festival Plaza boat launch at 5:30 p.m. for a guided tour, exploring the nearby river, hearing about local history, gazing up at the cities on either side and into the historic canals, and paddling to the confluence with the Little Androscoggin River, before regrouping at Gritty’s for refreshments and conversation.
The Source to Sea Trek covers the river from Magalloway to Merrymeeting Bay over the course of a month.
The event is an opportunity to learn more about the river and local history.
Androscoggin Land Trust has made it a mission to foster engagement with the rehabilitated waterway, and to encourage Mainers to take full advantage of the opportunities for recreation that were not available a generation ago.
Paddlers should bring a canoe, kayak or SUP and a Coast Guard-approved flotation device. There may be limited boats available for rental.
