TURNER — Androscoggin Land Trust will hold a Fall Foliage Celebration for Great Maine Outdoor Weekend. The trust will host a paddle around Gulf Island Pond along the shore of Androscoggin Riverlands State Park on Sunday, Oct. 1.
Participants will meet at 10 a.m. and wrap up around 2 p.m.
Judy Marden, longtime ALT board member, conservationist and outdoor enthusiast, will lead the group to launch from the boat access on Center Bridge Road near the northern end of the park.
Attendees will have the opportunity to take a scenic hike on the park’s Homestead Trail, where they will visit the foundations of farmsteads destroyed during floods caused by the construction of Gulf Island Dam in 1927.
Following the hike, they will paddle to an island, eat lunch and return to the launch spot. This event, as well as all the other Great Maine Outdoor Weekend events happening in the area, is a reason to get outside in Maine fall.
The Riverlands State Park has a special connection to ALT; some of the conservationists responsible for the protection and formation of Androscoggin Riverlands State Park also established ALT.
Bring a boat, paddling gear, flotation devices, lunch, hydration and protection from the elements. The paddle will be held rain or shine.
