As a former long time Lewiston-Auburn resident, I feel a strong desire and civic responsibility to weigh in on the merger issue. Though neither a proponent nor opponent of this joint venture, I do have a major concern that has not been addressed — a huge elephant in the room — so to speak.
Why haven’t we heard from the unions that represent the hundreds of city workers from both cities? What are their thoughts and opinions regarding this merger? The voting public should know beforehand how that contentious debate could play out.
I have been proud and grateful to call Lewiston-Auburn my hometown. The area has many amenities to offer its citizens — excellent schools, a strong workforce and a bright future led by dedicated people on both sides of the issue.
So please, let’s hear from the union representatives.
