HEBRON — The seventh and final Redneck Blank, Pig Roast and Music Festival will take place this weekend — and it’s sure to be a hootin’ good time.
The event is to be held on a 210-acre farm at 12 Harold Lane in Hebron, beginning Thursday, Aug. 10.
Owner and event organizer Harold Brooks said in an interview on NPR’s “All Things Considered” that he started the annual event because he thought people didn’t have enough to do.
“When I thought of it, I thought rednecks, to me, (are) people who (work) hard,” Brooks said. “At the same time, they (want) to have some fun.”
He said he is both excited and heartbroken about this being the last year.
“For me, this has been more than just some festival,” Brooks said in a post on the event’s Facebook page. “It has been one of the most important events of my life. What I have loved the most is all of you.”
Copious activities and musical guests are planned for the three-day event, starting with Girls Night Out on Thursday, featuring Australia’s Thunder from Down Under male review, straight from Las Vegas, followed by the band HoneyPot.
On Friday, some late-night redneck oil wrestling is planned at 9:30, as well as live music from local band Skosh, Motley Crue cover band Shout to the Devil and AC/DC cover band Back in Black.
On Saturday, the real action begins, with the Redneck Olympic Style games at 2 p.m. Attendees can let their inner redneck shine through, with events such as bobbing for pig’s feet, toilet seat horseshoes, the greased watermelon haul, wife-carrying, and tug-of-war over a huge mud pit.
Saturday will also feature music from Fire in the Hole, South City Band and Stolen Mojo, mud runs, a 5 p.m. pig roast (a redneck tradition), and a 20-foot-long bonfire at night.
Sunday is cleanup day, and all campsites must be packed up by 5 p.m.
Weekend passes are $60 at the gate, and include free camping, though camp sites will not have running water or electricity. Day passes will be available for $30.
The event will be held rain or shine.
