GRAFTON TOWNSHIP — A Sumner man was listed in satisfactory condition at a Lewiston hospital Friday evening, three days after he fell in Grafton Notch State Park and broke his leg.

Steven Borstelmann was hiking Wednesday evening with the Peak-a-Week Club of Rumford on Eyebrow Loop Trail when the accident happened, fellow hiker Steve Swan of Dixfield said in an email Friday.

With no cellphone service there, a hiker had to return to his car and drive some distance to get help, Swan said.

Chris Moretto, deputy chief of Med-Care Ambulance Service in Mexico, said Friday that two attendants hiked a mile up the trail and got Borstelmann off the trail two hours later.

LifeFlight medical helicopter flew Borstelmann to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Swan said.

A nursing supervisor said Friday evening that Borstelmann was in satisfactory condition.

Eyebrow Loop Trail on Old Speck Mountain is 2.2 miles round trip. It begins on the west side of Route 26 in Grafton Township and rises steeply to a 2,900 foot shelf-overlook on Old Speck. Sections of it involve ladders and steel rungs.

The Peak-a-Week Club meets every Wednesday evening during the summer at the Rumford Information Center parking lot to hike mountain trails varying from less than a mile to 3 miles with summits of up to 3,068 feet.
