RICHMOND, Va. — Dedgar Jimenez, Taylor Grover and Ty Buttrey combined for a shutout as the Portland Sea Dogs beat the Richmond Flying Squirrels 4-0 on Thursday. With the victory, the Sea Dogs swept the three-game series.
Jimenez (3-0) picked up the win after he struck out five and walked one while allowing six hits over six scoreless innings. Cory Taylor (4-9) went 2 1/3 innings, allowing four runs and three hits in the Eastern League game. He also struck out five and walked six. Buttrey pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings for his third save of the season.
All four runs came in the third inning, including a single by Danny Bethea that scored Mike Olt.
Bethea reached base four times in the win.
The Flying Squirrels were blanked for the 12th time this season, while the Sea Dogs’ staff recorded their 11th shutout of the year.
With the win, Portland improved to 5-1 against Richmond this season.
