A diver with the Maine State Police Underwater Recovery Team climbs aboard the boat that was used during a search of the Androscoggin River in Turner on Monday. Det. Michael Chavez said that that the team received a tip from a bass fisherman who picked up an image on his sonar that appeared to be an airplane submerged in 42 feet of water off Twitchell’s Airport & Seaplane Base. The divers searched the bottom of the river and found what could be a large section of an old wooden dock or a bridge, he said. Chavez said that he is confident that what the divers found is not part of an airplane, but that the team will return to the location to search again with the side-scan sonar, which was not working properly on Monday.
