Jack Robinson, 9, of Auburn and his 7-year-old brother, Owen, model the safety glasses that were handed out by staff at the Auburn Public Library for viewing Monday’s solar eclipse. Children’s librarian Deb Cleveland said the library has given out 900 pairs of the glasses. The library will hold a “KIDS! Get Ready for the Solar Eclipse” event at 1 p.m. Friday. Jon Wallace will talk about observing the eclipse and what one can expect. The library will also host a solar eclipse viewing party on the back lawn of the Library from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 21. Both events will emphasize viewing the eclipse safely. Adult services librarian Ruby Jones at the Lewiston Public Library said they had a “big, one-day rush” and gave out 150 free pairs of viewing glasses on Monday. “Everyone is getting into the eclipse,” Cleveland said. 

Denny’s Assistant Manager Fallon McInnis said the Auburn restaurant is celebrating Monday’s solar eclipse with all-you-can-eat “mooncakes” for $4 on Monday. “It’s how we are celebrating the eclipse this year,” said McInnis, who hinted that they are regular pancakes that are “fluffy shaped like the moon.”
