UM Extention offering salsa-making class
FARMINGTON — The University of Maine Cooperative Extension will offer a course, “Preserving the Harvest: Tomatoes and Salsa,” from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23, at the Franklin County Cooperative Extension, 138 Pleasant St. The fee is $20. The course will be instructed by Kate McCarty, food preservation community education assistant.
University of Maine Cooperative Extension’s hands-on food preservation workshops teach the basics of canning and freezing tomatoes, including how to use pressure canners and water bath canners. Fresh produce and canning jars are provided.

Society to meet, open schoolhouse
TEMPLE — The Temple Historical Society will hold its annual meeting Saturday, Aug. 19, at noon at the Red Schoolhouse on Temple Intervale.
Following the meeting, the schoolhouse, which is on the National Historic Register, will be open for visitors.
The Historical Society Room at the Temple Town Hall will be open to the public, also from 1 to 3 p.m.
Society members will be available at both places to assist the public in researching records, locating photos and sharing history.
Howland, Searles family reunion planned
MERCER — The Howland and Searles Reunion will be held at noon Sunday, Aug. 20, at the Mercer Community Center on Beech Hill Road, just off Route 2.
The reunion committee is trying to get as many family members together as possible. Those related or who think they are related may attend.
