FARMINGTON — The University of Maine Franklin County Extension Homemakers will host its fall state meeting on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 20 and 21, at the University of Maine at Farmington, 111 South St.
The theme is Apple Pickin’ Time and events will include tours of local orchards and a walking tour of Farmington.
Presentations will include John Bunker, History of Apples in Maine; Deborah Bujnocki, The Lost Adventures of Johnny Appleseed in Maine; State Apiarist Jennifer Lund, What’s the Buzz about Bees?
The Mt. Blue Jazz Band will perform on Friday evening after a dinner of chicken breast with apple cornbread stuffing and vegetarian lasagna. There will be raffles, a silent auction and a business meeting.
The meeting will be attended and led by Maine Extension Homemakers council officers: president, Barbara Lord; vice president, Bea LaPlante; secretary, Marion Shaw; and treasurer, Judy Mann.
The Extension Homemakers is a volunteer group that has the goal of developing leadership, supporting community causes and promoting University of Maine Cooperative Extension’s educational programs.
Extension Homemakers throughout the state belong to a local community group led by a County Extension Homemakers Advisory Board. The board has officers and meets on a regular basis. Boards throughout the state rotate the hosting of a statewide fall meeting each year.
The MEHC 2017 meeting is being hosted by Franklin County. There are six community groups in Franklin County: Clearwater, Neighborhood, North Chesterville, Strong, Weld and Wilton Day.
