MECHANIC FALLS — The Mechanic Falls Historical Society will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23, at the Anglican Church of the Transfiguration, formerly the First Congregational Church, 64 Elm St. The historical society and Anglican Church members are planning an organ concert on Sunday, Sept. 10.
The concert, titled “ORGAN PLUS,” will feature nationally known organist Mark Thallander. Joining Thallander will be area musicians, including a violinist, a trumpet player, a harpist and a bagpiper.
The concert is free, but donations will be accepted to maintain the 116-year-old pipe organ.
Plans for a community supper in October and events for November and December will also be on the agenda.
Society members are combing through the archives to categorize and store them. Anyone interested in helping and learning more about the society is welcome to attend the meeting.
The historical society would also like to acquire the video recording talents of someone in the area. Those interested may contact the Society or attend a meeting. No historical background is necessary.
The society extends an invite to anyone who seeks to join in preserving the documents and artifacts of the community as well suggesting ideas of further community involvement.
