AUBURN — Julien A. “Jules” Roy, 76, of Poland Springs passed away at the Androscoggin Hospice House on Aug. 8, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on Aug. 13, 1940, the son of Irene (Godbout) and Gerard “Peton” Roy. He married Claudette L. Raymond, his loving wife, on Aug. 29, 1959. Jules was a man of few words, but was always in the middle of family gatherings observing the commotion of our large family. Those last few weeks of his life revealed how much he was aware of all that was happening around him. His well- timed comments made us all laugh and appreciate the humorous side of this quiet man.
Jules served in the U.S. Army Reserve for six years in his early 20s. He worked as a truck driver for Roy Brothers, and retired early from Sanborn Express. He was an active member of the Montagnard Social Club. He then opened the CentreVille Social Club and later became a co-owner of the Hurricane Club.
Jules was mostly known for his love for fishing. He was an avid fly fisherman and was always looking for ways to improve on what was already created. He was willing to share his secrets with the many friends that would visit him on the Big Eddy. They all knew him for his perfected “Quill Fly.” There was no doubt that Jules was his happiest when he was up at “The Branch” and camping up on the Big Eddy.
Jules was most content sitting and watching the rafters coming down the rapids or at home watching the birds flying in and out on the front deck of their home on Middle Range Pond.
Jules was predeceased by his loving parents, Irene and Gerard Roy.
He is survived by his wife, Claudette; their four children, Coleen Coffren and her husband, Colin, Steven Roy and his wife, Kelly, Lori Baker and her husband, David, and Joline Masters and her husband, John. He is also survived by his brother, Lionel “Nel” Roy and wife, Annette; his sister, Denise Fraser and husband, Barry; 11 grandchildren, Kurt Varney, Stacey Bourgoin, Kelsey Varney, Amber Lebel Roy, Trisha and Desirae Roy, Chris Poulin, Ashley Mandell, Joshua Pelletier, Natalye and Julia Masters; five great-grandchildren; nephews, Travis Roy and Ethan Fraser; and nieces, Melanie Roy and Skye McAllister.
